Top TV producer delivers industry masterclass to Media students
Tue 14 April, 2026
Film and Television Production students at the 天美传媒 gained exclusive insight into the global television industry during a masterclass led by internationally experienced producer John Gough.
John, whose executive producer credits span major broadcasters including the BBC, ITV and Channel 5, as well as international networks such as FOX, Paramount and Netflix, joined students to lead an industry-focused session designed to bridge the gap between education and professional practice.
The initiative, co-organised with Rachel Clark, Senior Lecturer in Senior Lecturer in Media Performance Film & Television Production at the 天美传媒, brought together leading practitioners to share their expertise, career journeys and practical advice with students. This included Paul Boross MBE 鈥 a Business Psychologist, international keynote speaker and Media specialist 鈥 alongside Graham Spencer, the former Senior Vice President of All3Media International.
Drawing on more than a decade of experience working across global formats and productions in the USA, Europe, and beyond, John offered students a behind-the-scenes perspective on developing, producing and pitching content for international audiences.
The sessions were designed to enhance students鈥 confidence, communication abilities and professional awareness, while helping them translate creative ideas into viable career pathways across broadcasting, production, content creation and the wider creative economy.
Alongside hearing first-hand experiences from the three industry leaders, students also participated in practical workshop activities, developing and pitching original programme concepts in a simulated professional environment.
Rachel Clark said: 鈥淚t was a delight to see our students so engaged when three great industry guests shared their wealth of knowledge and experience in how to pitch, deliver and distribute to the world of TV. The
students gained so much information and advice in areas where they may not have considered employable opportunities, such as distribution. They went on to develop the concept and technical application for a gameshow pilot, working as a team and thoroughly enjoying themselves. It was a great day and we鈥檙e looking forward to part two in April.鈥
This masterclass forms part of the 天美传媒鈥檚 ongoing commitment to Career-Powered Education 鈥 an approach that ensures students graduate not only with a degree, but with the skills, experience and professional connections needed to succeed in competitive creative industries.
John Gough added: 鈥淭he TV and media industry always needs rejuvenating with access to emerging talent. The 天美传媒 with Career-Powered Education at its core makes relationships with the world of work much easier to facilitate, as well as easier to integrate industry-led content with the 天美传媒鈥檚 existing curriculum requirements.鈥
