After completing my undergraduate degree in psychology and a post graduate diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) I decided to read for my PhD. As a lecturer in the psychology department I primarily teach Research Methods, and statistics. I have a keen interest in experimental methodologies, particularly those which are clinical in nature.

My research focuses on combining psychology with Traditional Chinese Medicine, firstly to ask, if TCM may be used to help those suffering with psychological problems such as depression and/or anxiety. Secondly to determine if TCM can hold up against more rigorous empirical testing when treating more complex psychological issues such as Somatic or Medically Unexplained Symptoms. I also investigate role attachment plays in alternative medicine (e.g. acupuncture) and the effect this may have on therapeutic outcome.

Dr Britzer Paul Vincent is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Health Research, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, specializing in public health and organ donation research. He currently collaborates with Prof Nasreen Ali on projects addressing health inequalities and workforce challenges, as well as evaluating health service initiatives. In addition, he works with Prof Gurch Randhawa on fostering community engagement in organ donation. Dr Vincent’s role also includes training research assistants in research methodologies and providing supervisory support. He has extensive experience teaching public health modules at the master’s level, successfully supervising several dissertations that have led to publications. He is also co-supervising PhD student Dr Asma Al-Abdulghani, whose research focuses on barriers to deceased organ donation within Muslim communities in the UK and Qatar.

With over a decade of experience in organ donation and transplantation research, Dr Vincent has held various roles across clinical and public health domains. His Master’s dissertation examined knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to deceased organ donation among medical and nursing students. He also undertook a study in a government tertiary care teaching hospital on the barriers and suggestion for improvement toward deceased organ donation practices. In his PhD, he explored the barriers and facilitators to deceased organ donation in two regions of India. His PhD was funded by the Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) in collaboration with the MOHAN Foundation, India. In recognition of his contributions to the field, Dr Vincent was awarded the prestigious Young Investigator Award at the Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation in 2021.

Following his PhD, Dr Vincent secured funding from NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) for community engagement projects, beginning with £10,000 to support outreach efforts among minority communities. He subsequently obtained a two-year £31,000 grant to engage communities in Luton and Bedford on organ donation awareness. Through his research and community initiatives, Dr Vincent is actively contributing to advancements in public health and organ donation practices, particularly within underrepresented populations.

Jodi is an interdisciplinary researcher focused on addressing inequalities in education and public health. Her work spans diverse areas, including digital learning for older adults, challenges faced by young carers, and improving healthcare access for underrepresented communities. With a strong foundation in linguistics and health equity, Jodi’s research seeks to bridge gaps in policy and practice, creating solutions that promote inclusion and empower marginalised groups.

I qualified as a registered nurse in 2006 and spent my nursing career working at the local trust in acute general medicine.

I have a love of wound care and was seconded into the role of tissue viability nurse for nine months during this time. During my nursing career I have managed the ward area and also the OPD during the latter part of my career.

I am passionate about nursing and the student experience. In my role as School Enhancement Lead I provide support to the Head of School in relation to pre & post registration issues and make a meaningful contribution to the wider academic life in the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½.​ I work with the Lead of Practice Learning and Associate Dean of Student Experience to ensure the highest possible level of student satisfaction, both academic and professional, in respect of their academic and practice learning experience.

I attained all of my higher education qualifications here at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ and am a current PhD student!!!v I am very proud to be a member of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ teaching staff.

For the BLMK project I am looking into the study Building resilience in the caring professions though the implementation of Schwartz Rounds

The goal of the study is to help students and trained professionals "stay and stay well" in their chosen fields of work while navigating the reality of integrated care.

My scientific research background comprises research in Biochemistry and Neuroscience areas, with a particular focus on stem cell research, neurodegeneration and ageing. Having spent time dissecting the biological systems and partaking in disease mechanisms, in my current role as a Talk, Listen, Change Senior Research Fellow and TLC Research Programme Coordinator, I am working towards understanding the physical and socio-economic factors that can contribute to patient healthcare by utilising qualitative research to create new, accessible programmes that meet EDI initiatives in public health and social care systems.

I am a multi-lingual British Bangladeshi research assistant on the Talk, Listen Change (TLC) Workforce Research Programme. I have extensive experience of managing charities, research fieldwork and community engagement. I have carried out research fieldwork for a number of projects including: exploring views on and experiences providing remote weight management services as a result of the pandemic, Chalkscapes; co-creating solutions with diverse communities using local landscapes, exploring the impact and experiences of COVID-19 on health behaviour and physical and mental health well-being of people living with a chronic condition/s from Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities in Luton, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) pathways for mothers with gestational diabetes mellitus during COVID-19 in Bedfordshire Hospitals, the impact of COVID-19 on Black, Asian and ethnic minority communities in Luton, Chalkscapes: co-creating spaces for helping diverse communities to use green spaces and the countryside. I am managing and carrying out fieldwork for the ‘making it to the registers’ documenting migrant carers’ experiences of registration and fitness to practice and community engagement for the Collaborative Targeted Outreach Programme (CTOP) which aims to engage and inspire people from diverse backgrounds to consider courses and careers in health and social care. I am the founder and project manager for A Creative Expression Ltd: which is an organisation set up to advance in life and help children and young people through the provision of recreational and leisure time activities, a member of Bury Park Female Washing and Shrouding Group, A Tutor of Science of Tajweed (Quran recitation) and Team Member for PACT: Improving health care, to build a safer and brighter future for everyone.

Sangy Manjini Anandaraj is a Research Fellow at the Maternal and Child Health Research Centre, ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½. She holds a Master of Research (MRes) and a PhD in Midwifery Research from Kings’ College London. Her PhD research focused on mixed-methods research, exploring views of women on implementation of midwife-led care in India.

Sangy specialises in Maternal Health Nursing and her career as a midwife has involved working in various clinical environments including home, community settings and maternity wards in hospitals. In academia, she progressed from a clinical instructor to a Midwifery lecturer, with ten years of experience in both academic and clinical settings in India and Oman.
