Luton Town FC manager Jack Wilshere reflects on resilience and leadership at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ public lecture
Tue 03 March, 2026
Current Luton Town FC first-team manager and former Arsenal and England footballer Jack Wilshere was the special guest at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s first ‘Powered by Experience’ public lecture, reflecting on his career journey and sharing insights into leadership, resilience, and life in football management.
Jack was quizzed by a panel made up of Sports Journalism students Liam Wilmot and Lewis Auchterlounie, Media, Marketing & PR student Amelia Curran, alongside Jon Boyle, Senior Lecturer in Communications. The panel guided him through the defining moments of his career and chaired a Q&A session featuring questions from both the audience in the room and those watching online.
Held at the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s Luton campus and livestreamed online on Wednesday 25 February, the sold-out event saw Jack speak candidly about his rise through the ranks as a young player, representing his country on the international stage, and his transition from playing at the highest level to leading from the touchline as Luton Town’s first-team manager.
If you missed the event or would like to watch it again, a full recording is available on the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s .
Throughout the evening, Jack shared highlights from his playing days, insights into representing England, and honest reflections on stepping into management, discussing the differences between performing as an individual on the pitch and leading a squad from the sidelines.
The event forms part of the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s ongoing Official Education Partnership with Luton Town FC, which provides students with valuable industry insight and a range of career development opportunities across sport, media and the wider creative industries.
Two of the students on the panel – Amelia and Liam – are also currently undertaking work placements with Luton Town FC, alongside fellow student Joseph, where they are working with the Club’s media team on a range of tasks including matchday graphics, Academy filming, and matchday press conferences. After the event, Jack stayed to pose for photographs with attendees and signed autographs, taking time to speak personally with students and guests while they enjoyed refreshments and a networking opportunity.
This event was the first in the ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s new ‘Powered by Experience’ public event series – designed to bring leading professionals onto campus to share industry insights, challenges, and experiences. On Thursday 12 March, Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE – an award-winning speaker, tech leader and social entrepreneur widely recognised for her work supporting young people into science, technology and creative careers – will be the next guest in this series.
