AREA OF EXPERTISE: GENDER IN SPORT / LGBTQ+ ATHLETES

Dr Jones is a commentator on gender in sport and the participation of LGBT+ athletes, with a particular focus on the debate around transsexual athletes. She is currently a senior lecturer in Sport Sociology and Physical Education and her research includes issues of social justice, gender and sexualities in sport and the Sociology of Bodies concerning the mental well-being of athletes.

AREA OF EXPERTISE: RACISM & INEQUALITY IN SPORT

Dr Hill is a commentator on racism and gender/race inequalities in football and their impact on inclusion and participation of young people. As a Senior Lecturer in Physical Education and Sport Sociology, her research spans social justice, equality and inclusion/exclusion in sport, particularly gender and race, to media responses to racism and gender inequality.

AREA OF EXPERTISE: PLAYER INJURIES / IMPACT OF FOOTWEAR ON PLAYER PERFORMANCE

Dr Mitchell is Associate Dean of the Faculty of Education & Sport with research interests focussed on sports injuries, specifically lower limb biomechanics and ankle sprains, injury assessment and rehabilitation. He also carries out consultancy on sports footwear development and design for New Balance.

Dr Wu is an expert on sports politics and media as well as fandom, including from a Chinese perspective. Previously a sports journalist in China (covering the Olympics and the World Cup), she now is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Sociology and Media Studies. Her interest cover sports nationalism and diplomacy, the political economy of Chinese elite sport and reporting of major sport tournaments in China, including from fans’ perspectives.

AREA OF EXPERTISE: PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT / DOPING

Dr Aldous has a comprehensive understanding on the impact of heat and altitude on a football player’s physical performance and physiological responses. He is a Lecturer in Exercise Physiology and his research focuses on improving athletic performance by nutritional and environmental (i.e. cooling manoeuvres) ergogenic aids with particular focus on team sports and thermoregulation.

AREA OF EXPERTISE: COACHING BEHAVIOUR / DECISION-MAKING

David is an expert on football coach behaviour and decision making, coach training, identifying and developing talent in football. David is a UEFA Licensed football coach and Senior Lecturer in Sport Science and Coaching. His current research interests include the training of coaches, the psychology of performance and the development of new players.

Dr Morris’ research and consultancy has involved working with both endurance and team sports including rowing, cycling, running and football. He worked for around10 years focusing on physiological supporting the context of pre, during and postseason fitness testing. This was part of a multi-disciplinary team to optimise player performance.
