About the course
Our MSc in Cyber Crime, Terrorism and Security gives you the opportunity to critically examine the evolving landscape of technology and the online world; how these changes impact crime and deviance; and how to protect the cyber realm. You explore key areas in depth including information security, cyber criminology, cyber law, cybersecurity, ethical hacking and human rights. The course offers a cross-disciplinary learning experience, developing your understanding of the technical and criminological impacts of the emerging technologies and digital trends that pose threats to security, as well as the cybersecurity measures that protect against these threats. You apply your theoretical knowledge in practical, hands-on sessions, using simulated, real-world scenarios.

The MSc in Cyber Crime, Terrorism, and Security offers a comprehensive exploration of Information Security, Cyberlaw, Human Rights, and Cybersecurity, bridging the gap between theory and practice through topics such as ethical hacking, cyber criminology, and terrorism. This interdisciplinary approach provides a unique perspective that integrates the fields of cybercrime and cybersecurity.
Students from a social science background will find this program accessible as it familiarises them with cybercrime, terrorism, cyberlaw, and human rights while equipping them with new skills in information security and cybersecurity. They will gain knowledge in cybersecurity concepts and practice these through activities such as security scanning, incident response, and basic penetration testing.
Students with a technology background will delve into the practical application of cybersecurity concepts while expanding their understanding of cybercrime, terrorism, cyberlaw, and human rights. This integration allows them to combine their technical expertise with criminology, opening new career and research opportunities.
Throughout the course, students participate in practical exercises, case studies, and real-world simulations to develop hands-on skills in cybersecurity and digital investigations. They also can be exposed to law enforcement agencies, cybersecurity firms, and other relevant organizations to gain insights of real-world applications through guest lectures and field visits.
In addition, the students will learn Research Methodologies, which will enhance their research skills and knowledge. Students are also required to conduct a MSc Project in Cyber Crime, Terrorism and Security to showcase how they can develop an artefact based on the knowledge and skills they have acquired. The units are also related to professional courses in their respective areas, enabling a student to get the professional certifications along with their academic qualifications.
