About the course
This course prepares you for managerial roles across a range of business environments while offering specialisation in international business. You study the core areas of business management including strategy; leadership; innovation; responsible management; sustainable practices; and entrepreneurship. Your specialism studies give you a thorough grounding in responsible and effective global business management including international economics, marketing and intercultural awareness.

This course has the option to be taken over four years which includes a year placement in industry. Undertaking a year in industry has many benefits. You gain practical experience and build your CV, as well as being a great opportunity to sample a profession and network with potential future employers.
There is no tuition fee for the placement year enabling you to gain an extra year of experience for free.

A Degree with a Foundation Year gives you guaranteed entry to an Undergraduate course.
Whether you’re returning to learning and require additional help and support to up-skill, or if you didn’t quite meet the grades to pursue an Undergraduate course, our Degrees with Foundation Year provide a fantastic entry route for you to work towards a degree level qualification.
With our guidance and support you’ll get up to speed within one year, and will be ready to seamlessly progress on to undergraduate study at Bedfordshire.
The Foundation Year provides an opportunity to build up your academic writing skills and numeracy, and will also cover a range of subject specific content to fully prepare you for entry to an Undergraduate degree.
This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will need to successfully complete the Foundation Year to progress on to the first year of your bachelor’s degree.

Year 1
Applied numeracy for business – Develop key numeracy skills vital to your success in future employment. Evolution and revolution in business – Learn about the historical development of business through lectures and workshops. Management in practice – Explore ‘gamified’ learning of concepts in business management by participating in reality-mimicking simulations. Beginning your professional business journey – Take on business challenges and collaborate with peers in a professional environment.
Year 2
Employability and the future workplace – Produce a checklist-based portfolio with evidence of learning and development to enhance your employability. Risk and responsibility – Apply risk assessment tools and techniques to respond to various types of risk in business. Managing business complexity – Use the knowledge and skills you have gained to solve complex business issues. International new ventures (INV) and innovation – Compare traditional, gradual approaches to entry into foreign markets with INV, which offers rapid entry to start-ups. Cross-cultural management in business – Explore the changing face of management across cultures, identifying culture-specific preferences across a variety of situations. Data and research methods for business – Learn research methods to support critical research in business issues.
Year 3
International economics – Apply global economic concepts and models, presenting practical analyses of international events. Business in an international environment – Analyse the structure of international trade and its changing flows when it comes to increasing international business. Innovation and entrepreneurship – Understand the role of corporate innovation and entrepreneurial character, start-up growth strategies, and business planning. Data-driven business – Analyse ethical data-collection trends and apply tools to analyse quantitative and qualitative trends. Business project – Independently design, plan, manage and execute a research project.

Assessment takes a variety of forms including essays and reports portfolios individual and group presentations (individually assessed) research proposals and exams.
Many of the assessments are based on real case studies project work and other employability focused activities. Most units include elements of individual and group work to reflect the type of work undertaken in business and management.
Assessment focuses on tasks that develop vocational skills underpinned by subject knowledge requiring higher levels of cognition in the later years of the course.
Careers
The course opens opportunities for you to become a general business manager or operations/project manager. You can also develop your career in your specialist area moving into human resources; digital and e-business; financial analysis; international operations; and business analytics.
You may like to progress to a related taught Master’s courses such as our Business Administration (MBA) MSc Project Management and MSc Sustainable Management. We also offer research degree opportunities.
