Accommodation for Buckinghamshire NHS students
If you’re studying Nursing or Midwifery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, we offer a range of conveniently close, comfortable choices including NHS accommodation at Harrington House; private accommodation at Thames Valley Housing; and options with private-sector landlords.
We also offer private accommodation to students and NHS staff based at our placement areas at High Wycombe Hospital and Wexham Park Hospital.
- NHS accommodation at Harrington House is £407* per month and includes all utility bills, wi-fi and parking (parking permit required; permit does not cover hospital car parks).
- Thames Valley Housing is £755.21* per month (utility bills included).
- Private-sector providers listed on the website ask for £650-£700* with standard, double and en-suite rooms available, in a shared house; rent includes all utility bills.
- Chiltern Heights in High Wycombe is £600.25* per month (utility bills included) with standard rooms available with shared bathroom and kitchen.
- Wexham Park accommodation is £431.38 per month (utility bills included) with standard rooms available with shared bathroom and kitchen.
- For NHS accommodation, you pay two months’ rent in advance and one month's rent as a damage deposit. This means you will always be one month in credit until the last month of your contract rather than arrears.
- For private providers, you pay one month's rent in advance and one month's rent as a damage deposit.
- Rent must be paid monthly either by direct debit or over the phone by credit/debit card, depending on the provider.
- Private providers do not include parking and wi-fi in the rent although some private providers may have parking available.
- Contents insurance is not included so we recommend you arrange this yourself. The National Union of Students recommends
As a full-time student, you are exempt from council tax but, depending on the landlord, you may need to apply for this exemption yourself via the local council (either online or by completing a form).
- In NHS accommodation, all your furniture will be provided in your room and kitchen. You can have a separate fridge in your room at Harrington House.
- In private accommodation, most rooms are furnished but it is best to check directly about what is provided.
- You will need to supply your own bedding, towels, cooking utensils, plates and cutlery etc.
- If you are bringing any electrical appliances, these need to have an up-to-date PAT (Portable Appliance Test) or be under two years old.
- You can request a room change, but your request is subject to availability and may incur a charge, depending on the reason for the request.
- Pets are not permitted in any of the accommodation.
In NHS accommodation, you are responsible for:
- cleaning your own bedroom
- cleaning and washing your pots in the kitchen.
A cleaning team cleans the bathroom/s and kitchen, but you need to leave them in a reasonable condition and take any belongings with you. If you leave dirty pots in th kitchen, these will be removed to a separate box so the cleaning team can carry out their duties.
In private accommodation, you are responsible for cleaning all areas of your accommodation.
Complete the enquiry form to apply for accommodation within Buckinghamshire
Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation email providing further details on how accommodation is allocated. You will also be asked to complete an application form before accommodation providers allocate you a specific room.
You will have to sign an assured shorthold tenancy agreement, which will be for a minimum of six months. This is a legally binding agreement between you and the landlord. Your rights and those of the landlord will be explained in the agreement.
Your contract will set out the date from which the agreement will commence. Once you have signed and sent back your contract along with any advance rent payments and deposits, then you will be able to move in from this date. Your accommodation provider will contact you directly to confirm how to collect your keys.
